Graham Potter, the former manager of Chelsea and Brighton, has recently taken on a new role as course co-director at the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Business School. In this position, he will oversee the Certificate in Football Psychology, Emotional Intelligence, and Leadership, aiming to help players develop leadership skills and manage the emotional and mental challenges of football.
Despite this educational commitment, Potter is reportedly in advanced discussions with West Ham United to become their new manager, following the anticipated dismissal of current head coach Julen Lopetegui. Lopetegui, who joined West Ham in May 2024, has struggled to deliver positive results, with the team currently sitting 14th in the Premier League after a series of disappointing performances, including a recent 4-1 defeat to Manchester City.
West Ham officials have been in contact with Potter, who is keen on returning to Premier League management after his departure from Chelsea in April 2023. The discussions have reportedly progressed positively, with Potter expected to sign an initial six-month contract, which could extend to two and a half years if certain performance targets are met.
The potential appointment of Potter has garnered support from former West Ham players, including Tony Cottee, who believes that Potter’s innovative approach and experience in the Premier League make him a suitable candidate to lead the Hammers out of their current slump.
As West Ham prepares for upcoming fixtures, including an FA Cup tie against Aston Villa and Premier League matches against Fulham and Crystal Palace, the club is eager to finalize the managerial position to stabilize the team’s performance and improve their standing in the league. The anticipated appointment of Graham Potter is seen as a strategic move to bring fresh ideas and renewed vigor to the s
quad.
