Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly nearing the acquisition of former Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori from AC Milan. The 27-year-old center-back has found playing time limited this season, making only six Serie A starts and totaling just 13 minutes in the last ten league matches. This lack of action has prompted interest from several Premier League clubs, including Tottenham, Newcastle United, West Ham, and Brentford.
Tomori, who progressed through Chelsea’s youth system, joined AC Milan in January 2021, initially on loan before securing a permanent move. He was instrumental in Milan’s Serie A title win in 2022. However, his recent struggle for game time has led to speculation about a potential return to the Premier League.
Tottenham’s interest is partly due to recent defensive injuries, notably to Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, which have exposed vulnerabilities in their backline. The potential £25 million transfer fee for Tomori could be seen as a strategic investment to bolster their defense.
While Tottenham appears to be leading the race for Tomori’s signature, they face competition from Newcastle, West Ham, and Brentford, all of whom are keen to strengthen their defensive options. Tomori’s contract with AC Milan runs until June 2027, so any transfer would require agreement from the Italian club.
As the January transfer window approaches its conclusion, it remains to be seen whether Tottenham can finalize the deal for Tomori, bringing the former Chelsea star back to the Premier Le
ague.
